Once Left For Dead, High Stakes Poker Returns for a Fifth Season

The Game Show Network (GSN) announced details about the upcoming fifth season of the popular series High Stakes Poker. This year’s minimum cash buy-in will be $200,000—the largest buy-in for an entire run of a television series. This amount highlights the 2009 season of a poker series that regularly features the richest cash games on TV.

Filming is set for December 19-21, 2008 at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
Henry Orenstein, the show’s executive producer said, “High Stakes Poker, by a wide margin, has become a must-see on GSN for poker players and poker fans all over the world. We are happy to bring back the top amateurs and professionals risking hundreds of thousands of their money in the new season.”

Past seasons have showcased some of the world’s top professional and amateur players, including the controversial Phil Hellmuth, the legendary Doyle Brunson, the charismatic Daniel Negreanu, Cirque du Soleil Founder and CEO Guy Laliberté, and 2006 WSOP Champion Jamie Gold.

Earlier this year High Stakes Poker was on life support, and looked all but dead. GSN halted production of the show and decided not to pick up the next season of the World Poker Tour. Announcers Gabe Kaplan and A.J. Benza weren't told what was happening and the show looked ready for last rites despite the high ratings it received year after year.But a few months ago GSN confirmed that a fifth season would take place, and everyone’s favorite TV poker show beat the odds and is coming back.
